Updates June 27-July 02

Hello,

Thank you for the likes and follows.  I really appreciate them.

Recently, I asked the question how to make these updates more interesting.   In my opinion they read bland.  I apologize for that.  It is ironic that I continue to tell everyone that I’m a writer.  I would like to say that I’m saving the spice writing for the fiction but that is always the case.  There are times I get a flow-state (the muse) and there are times I am going through the motions.  More successful writers have stated that when they read their work, they can’t tell which sections were inspired and which section were practice.  The whole is looked at and considered worthy by the fans, editors, publishers etc.   I try to remember that when everything feels heavy or useless.

There are many reasons for posting updates.  One was for consistency; another was for accountability.  I needed to see my own productivity and I wanted to share my writing woes with the world.  I didn’t think I was the only one.  Misery likes company.  However, writing a post about why I was not writing was cliché.  So, I decided to let anyone, and everyone know where I was with the writing.  Then because I am well established procrastinator and self-saboteur, I stopped working on the writing project.    Well not exactly true, I wrote about it on the updates and what I wrote was true.  But that would be one day or one hour of work and effort, when I wrote what I wrote about any writing project.  I believed I would be giving that project at least 3 hours.  What happened was I spent 25 minutes on my own writing projects an hour, the rest of that hour went to social media.  It is a sad, average tale.  It is annoying writing about it.  But that is full disclosure and accountability.  Once I let the truth out.  Writing about doing better will benefit myself and others.  There is no great pedestal or soapbox where everything is easier.   I am writing this for myself and any creative person who happens to read this.

This week’s goals are more of the same.  I will be writing 8,000 words a week, which adds up to about 1600 words a day.  I realized too late that these were NaNoWriMo rules, but I won’t change them because I think they work.  I will be looking at outlines and they are helpful for writers to complete their story.  Hopefully, next week I will have something interesting to write on that subject.

I hope this week will be full of opportunity for everyone.  Let’s all try to be kind and better than we were last week.

Updates June 13-25

Hello,

Thank you for the likes and follows.  Welcome new and old followers.  You are all appreciated.

Everything is kind of up in the air.  I traveled from NYC to Atlanta Georgia, it took forever for me to get packed up as a result the Monday update posted on June 14th was not there. We took the Amtrak train.  It was not a bad trip. It started off a little shaky but smoothed out.  I was able to read a little, listen to audio books and write a little bit on the tablet. I will still need time to adjust.

I attended the Virtuous Con.  I was not able to attend all the panels but the few that I saw were very good.  The one that I will be utilizing is the one given by Cerece Rennie Murphy on outlining.  There are at least two stories I believe that can benefit from the outlining method she recommended we use.  There was a class hosted by L. Penelope on world building.  Unfortunately, I missed that one. Hopefully, the missed classes and panels will be posted on YouTube later.  This was the first time I have attended a virtual event.  I didn’t quite get the hang of it, but it was fun.

In writing news, there has been no progress on Star Crossed. I don’t know exactly why but I am working on getting back on track.  I also did write some notes on other stories.  I am a decent procrastinator.  When I am having problems with one story, another will pop its head up and distract me.  I am attempting to avoid that.  Sometimes it helps to make notes and move on to the issue at hand.

While I am in Atlanta, I will be visiting relatives.  I don’t know how many words I will be able to write.  I will be happy with 3000 for this week.  Very soon, camp Nanowrimo with be in effect in July.  Again, I will not be participating.  I will be encouraging those who are.

Hopefully by the end of this week I will have settled myself enough to have a decent writing habit.

I am hoping that despite all the negative things that have happened.  There is some small positive thing that gives us all strength to continue.  Let us all remember to be kind, even when we think it is impossible.  Please have a lovely week.
